Process:
A correction notice is published and linked to the original article
The original article remains accessible
The correction clearly states the nature of the error and the changes made
An Expression of Concern may be issued when:
There is inconclusive evidence of research or publication misconduct
An investigation is ongoing and unresolved
Serious concerns have been raised about the integrity of the work
The notice remains in place until the investigation is completed.
Retractions are issued when a published article is found to be fundamentally flawed or unethical, rendering its findings unreliable.
Reasons for retraction include:
Plagiarism or substantial similarity
Data fabrication or falsification
Duplicate or redundant publication
Unethical use of AI-generated content
Serious authorship or conflict-of-interest violations
Ethical approval violations
Retractions are initiated by the Editor-in-Chief, editorial board, authors, or institutions
Authors are informed and given an opportunity to respond
A retraction notice is published, clearly stating the reason for retraction
The original article remains online but is clearly marked as “Retracted”
Retraction notices are permanently linked to the original article
Published articles are not altered or removed except in cases of retraction
Any post-publication changes are documented transparently
Metadata and indexing services are updated accordingly
Must promptly notify the journal of any significant errors discovered post-publication
Must cooperate fully in correction or retraction procedures
Ensure fair, unbiased, and timely handling of correction or retraction requests
Maintain confidentiality and integrity throughout investigations
Authors may appeal retraction or correction decisions with valid justification
Appeals are reviewed by senior editors or independent editorial board members
